Who We Are

We are a non-denominational Congregation in the Wesleyan Tradition. Cornerstone Church Chrisney was formerly Cornerstone UMC in Chrisney, Indiana which was created in 2001 by the merger of Chrisney UMC, Chrisney, Indiana and Newtonville UMC, Newtonville, Indiana. Our congregation includes farmers, small business owners, medical professionals and educational leaders. We are a congregation with a focus of reaching the younger and oldest persons in the Spencer County community.

Our Community:

We are blessed to be a part of Spencer County, Indiana (population 20,000). It is primarily a rural county in Southwest Indiana where Abraham Lincoln spent his boyhood years but more. Chrisney is a town located near the center of the county and surrounded by the nearby work centers of Owensboro, KY; Evansville, IN; Huntingburg, IN; and Jasper, IN. The area is home to first rate primary, secondary and university level schools. North Spencer School Corporation has consistently ranked in the top 10% of school corporations and teachers in the state. Chrisney Elementary has a 4 Star Achievement Rating. Quality post secondary education is available in the area also. There are many options available to pursue a quality post secondary education. Owensboro Technical College, Kentucky Wesleyan College, University of Evansville, Oakland City University, University of Southern Indiana among others offer a variety of choices for obtaining post secondary education. Our area has no shortage of recreational and entertainment options as well. Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari in Santa Claus, IN; The Lincoln Amphitheater & Lincoln State Park in Gentryville, IN; The Lincoln Boyhood Memorial Park in Gentryville, IN; Smothers Park & River Park Center in Owensboro, KY and within Chrisney there is a city park with a 9 hole golf coarse. Chrisney and Spencer County have access to modern and updated highway systems that make urban areas like Indianapolis, Louisville and Nashville an easy daytrip possibility.

Our Ministries:

  • For twenty years Cornerstone Church has provided a near no cost, highly successful Christian-based Preschool for childrem from 3-5 years old.

  • Additionally, for twenty years Cornerstone has has sponsored and provided a successful Basketball and Cheerleading Program for kindergarten to second grade boys and girls.

  • We also annually provide a Summer Vacation Bible School for the children of the community.

  • We are also home to and support local Scout Pack and Troop #199.

  • We have an active Junior High to High School youth group meeting weekly at the Church and scheduling summer Mission Trips upon occasion.

    Other Ministries with direct benefit to the Community include:

  • Change-for Change where spare change donations are collected for Chrisney Elementary School Discretionary Fund use

  • Yearly Scholarship Program for students continuing their education

  • College Share Packages where college students are supported through prayer, notes and packages

  • Share-A-Meal where monthly meals are shared with the Community Seniors

  • Grief Sharing Program is a 13 week program to help with loss of loved ones

  • Circle of Love is a mission minded Women’s organization

  • Collaboration with Spencer County Christian Resource Center.

  • 200+ Seating in the Sanctuary with Audio/Visual and Streaming capabilities.
