About the Preschool Academy
Cornerstone Preschool started in 2003. Ms. Debbie Sisley was the Director and Pre-K teacher from its inception until she retired at the end of the 2018-19 school year. Ms. Raquel Zoglman took over as the new Director and Pre-K teacher in the Fall of 2019. Ms. Amy Harris has been the 3-year old teacher since 2003.
To attend the preschool there is a $50 non-refundable fee that must accompany a registration. An additional $100 participation fee is required by the beginning of school. There are no other fees.
All students and their families make a commitment to the school to participate and help in the three main fundraiser events during the school year. The preschool is an outreach ministry of the church. Our goal is to share the love of Jesus with each student.
PRE-K
At Cornerstone we have created our own curriculum based on some of the techniques and strategies used in the North Spencer County School Corporation (NSCS). This class meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8-10 a.m.
Tucker, a phonetic sign language, is taught with the alphabet. Stories are read daily. Nursery Rhymes and other poems are used for fluency. Music is a big part of our learning experience.
Journaling is done in our classroom. We start the year with printing our names, letters, and numbers. By the end of the year we will be writing words, phrases, and simple sentences. We also have a class library where children can check out books. Our students work on the computer daily.
We have art projects where skills of coloring, painting, cutting, and gluing are used.
Once a week we have praise & worship time in the sanctuary. We have monthly themes to teach Christian values and appropriate behaviors for successful relationships. Each month the children memorize a scripture memory verse that follows the theme.
Our goal is to prepare the children for kindergarten.
3-YEAR OLDS
The goal of this class is to create a learning environment where children interact with other children and learn how to share and care for each other. They also learn how to follow instruction from adults other than family. This class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30-noon.
They will be introduced to each letter of the alphabet, numbers 1-10, shapes and colors. Calendar time is a daily routine. Exploration of nature and other science projects will be experienced. They will enjoy music regularly.
During class time reading always takes place. They will hear many stories including Bible stories. Children will participate in many hands on projects. They will use cutting and coloring skills. Journaling is done in the classroom as they practice printing their name and letters & numbers introduced.
